Above & Beyond: Electronic Music Pioneers

Above & Beyond, comprising English DJs Jono Grant and Tony McGuinness, along with Finnish DJ Paavo Siljamäki, stand at the forefront of the electronic music scene. Formed in 2000, the trio has left an indelible mark on the industry. With ownership of renowned labels Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep, as well as a weekly radio show titled Group Therapy Radio, their influence spans far and wide.

Evolution and Early Success

The journey began in 1999 when Grant and Siljamäki, brought together by their shared love for electronic music, established the Anjunabeats label. Initial success came with their single "Volume One." The remix of Chakra's "Home" marked a turning point, inspiring the name "Above & Beyond." Despite their relative obscurity at the time, their remix reached the top of the UK club charts.

Triumphs in Trance

The years 2001-2005 saw Above & Beyond rise to prominence as go-to remixers for tracks by artists like Madonna, Delerium, and Britney Spears. Their single "No One On Earth," featuring Zoë Johnston, gained recognition, with the Gabriel & Dresden Remix named Tune of the Year for 2004.

Tri-State Era (2006–2009)

In 2006, Above & Beyond released their debut artist album, "Tri-State," earning critical acclaim. The album's singles, including "Air for Life" and "Alone Tonight," solidified their position in the trance scene. Their prowess was further recognized with awards like Best Underground Dance Track at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

Group Therapy Era (2010–2014)

"Group Therapy," their second artist album released in 2011, showcased diverse tracks, with "Sun & Moon" and "Thing Called Love" gaining massive popularity. The album topped iTunes Dance Album charts and earned them accolades, cementing their status as a powerhouse in the electronic music realm.

Innovations and Global Presence

The Group Therapy World Tour in 2012 marked a new era, with sold-out shows across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Above & Beyond continued to headline major festivals and, in 2013, celebrated their 500th radio show at Alexandra Palace in London.

Common Ground and Beyond (2017–present)

Their 2018 album, "Common Ground," maintained their signature sound and included singles like "Tightrope" and "My Own Hymn." The release showcased their enduring appeal. In 2019, they surprised fans with "Flow State," an ambient album demonstrating their versatility.

Radio Dominance

Above & Beyond's impact extends beyond performances. Their weekly radio show, Group Therapy Radio, has become a global phenomenon. Initially, with "Trance Around the World," and now with Group Therapy Radio, they have consistently delivered fresh sounds to millions of listeners worldwide.

Future Endeavors

Looking ahead, Above & Beyond's legacy seems destined to endure. Their 2022 plans include hosting ABGT 500 in Los Angeles, a testament to their enduring influence in the electronic music landscape.
