The Troglauer, formerly known as "Troglauer Buam," is a German rock band that originated in Troglau near Kastl in the district of Tirschenreuth, in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria, Germany, in 2004. Initially formed as a pure cover band, they fused elements of folk music with modern and classic rock songs. The band refers to this unique blend as "Heavy Volxmusik," incorporating their hometown's cultural influence into their music. Over time, the Troglauer introduced original compositions to their repertoire.
Band History
Since 1995, Daniel "Danny" Raps, Markus "Mike" Raps, and Dominik "Nicki" Brand had been making music together in the cover band "Promise." Sharing their rehearsal space with another cover band called "Voices," featuring Thomas "Domml" Wöhrl on vocals and Thomas "Willi" Seitz on drums.
Initially intended as a fun project for a one-time performance on July 4, 2004, the Troglauer's stage activities increased, leading all musicians to leave their original bands and focus solely on the Troglauer. The band expanded its performance area to cover all of Bavaria and parts of Austria.
In 2008, they signed a record deal with major label Ariola (Sony BMG). Their debut album, "Heavy Volxmusic," was produced in Hamburg and released on July 4, 2008, entering the German Album Charts at position 47.
The Troglauer's second album, "Heavy Volxmusic – Die 2te," was released on July 3, 2009, reaching position 59 on the German charts.
In 2010, the Troglauer collaborated with the mood singer Tim Toupet to create a new version of the song "Bobfahrerlied," originally by Willy Michl.
The Troglauer's version of "Haberfeldtreiber" in 2010 achieved the 18th place in the Bavarian Single Sales Hit Parade on Bayern 3.
The band continued its success with the release of the third studio album, "Geboren in Troglau," in 2012, landing at position 42 on the charts.
They created a song, "Maria – The Elegance Of Speed," for skier Maria Höfl-Riesch during the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2013.
In 2014, they recorded Willy Michl's "Bobfahrerlied" again for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, accompanied by a music video featuring the German bobsleigh team.
The 10th-anniversary album, "Wer hätt’ des denkt!?," released in 2014, debuted at number 21 on the German Album Charts.
The Troglauer's sixth album, "Friede Freude Volxmusic," released in 2019 for their 15th band anniversary, achieved their highest chart entry at position 19.
After Roland "Roy" Pfleger's departure in March 2020, the Troglauer continued as a five-member band.
