On April 17, 2027, the Kölner Philharmonie in Cologne will host ambrose akinmusire | Craig Taborn »Bloom & Decay«, a concert that promises an intimate yet expansive conversation between Akinmusire's luminous trumpet and Taborn's crystalline, sometimes percussive piano landscapes, where each phrase unfurls like a momentary bloom only to dissolve into resonant decay. The program will move fluidly between composed motifs and open improvisation, drawing the hall into a shared attention to silence, timbre, and the fragile architecture of sound so that quiet gestures feel as consequential as eruptive crescendos. Listeners can expect a shifting emotional arc—poised lyricism, sudden flashes of dissonant clarity, and long, patient explorations of texture—that highlights both artists' gifts for restraint and daring. The performance will make full use of the Philharmonie's warm acoustics, allowing small sonic details to bloom across the audience and linger in the air after a note fades. This concert is likely to be in high demand, so tickets should be secured early for anyone who wants to witness this rare meeting of two singular improvisers in one of Cologne's most sonically alive spaces.
